Back to School
Back to School
It’s back to school time! ABCUSD students returned to classrooms this week, and other local districts are already in session or closely following behind. My three kids are headed back to school as well. The quiet mornings of summer will now be replaced with the (semi) chaos of school days. Afternoons and evenings will now be spent in front of a textbook (they still have those, right?) and computer screens. From a business perspective, “Back to School” has become an important retail season with an expected $27 billion spent. Parents will shell out about $501 per child, mostly buying school supplies and clothes. Even with all of the buzz around online shopping, most still plan to do their shopping in stores with “mass merchants” and “off price” stores seeing the most shoppers. If you know me, you know what’s coming next – if you are still in the midst of your back to school shopping, then think and shop local!
Speaking of heading back to school, I want to give some Chamber members a big “shout out” for helping another Chamber member. Each year the ABC Education Foundation works to provide backpacks full of school supplies to low-income students. I was very proud to see LBS Financial Credit Union, Rancho Southeast Association of Realtors, Kaiser Permanente, Cerritos Optimist Club, and the Office of L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn all involved in this year’s project. This support adds up to more than 500 backpacks given to kids as they made their way back to campus this week. This type of activity is what community is all about.
I hope you have a great weekend, and maybe I’ll see you at Spamalot on Sunday at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. I can’t wait!
