Scott Radcliffe's Thoughts

Another Busy Week

Is it just me or has this been the longest week of the year? For both May and I this was our first 5 day workweek after back to back weeks with midweek holidays. I think that is what makes it seem so long. Or maybe it was being at the City Council meeting last night until 10:30PM (more about that later). Either way, it was a very successful week as we launched our Cerritos Connected - Leads Group.

The inaugural meeting had the chamber conference room packed to full capacity as 27 representatives from businesses turned out to find out more about this new chamber benefit. There were chamber member businesses and non-member visitors alike in the meeting, which is very exciting to see for the chamber. Future meetings will now begin to incorporate our dynamic format and we are expecting more great results. Thank you to all that attended.

Next month we will be launching another new member benefit program, the Business Educational Series. This new program will feature educational information that can directly benefit our local businesses. Each month a chamber member will conduct an educational presentation that is not a “sales pitch”, but will instead provide beneficial information about cost saving opportunities, security & safety issues, legal issues and many other topics. The benefit opportunity is designed to assist the local businesses with remaining competitive, fiscally sounds and continuing to remain a thriving business in our beautiful community.

Speaking of our beautiful community, the City Council unanimously approved an ordinance banning the use of harmful herbicides containing glyphosate from public lands in the city of Cerritos. The decision was strongly supported by local residents and activists who spoke eloquently during the public comment section of the council meeting. There is more good news from the council meeting last night. The council unanimously approved two new businesses and there renovation plans for a couple properties that have been vacant for too long. First, the old Vons location on South St. and Palo Verde will be beautifully transformed into Chuze Fitness. Second, the old Toys-R-Us location on South St. and Gridley will become a yet to be named grocery store. Thank you city council for continuing to attract new businesses to the community. And finally, the council unanimously approved your Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce request to host a 2020 Candidate Forum. The Forum will take place in the City Council Chambers on February 12th beginning promptly at 6:30PM.

Looking ahead, be sure to save the date, May 4th. Your Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce will be hosting our annual Golf for a Cure Tournament. Option A, you can choose to sign up now. Option B, I make you sign up later (jk). We’ll be calling upon all golfers to get engaged with the chamber on this important fund raiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team. You will be benefiting both organizations while you have some fun.
