Four Years Ago
Four Years Ago
Can you remember back to October of 2012? It was just four years ago, but there was a great deal going on in the world. Hugo Chavez was just “re-elected” as President of Venezuela., President Obama and Mitt Romney were debating who should be in the White House, and the dreaded San Francisco Giants won the World Series (BOOOOO!). One other thing happened at that time – I started my time here at the Cerritos Regional Chamber of Commerce.
I’ve told the story of walking into my first interview for this job at the AALRR offices to find the conference room filled with ten past-presidents of the Chamber. Let me tell you, I brought my “A Game” that day and it paid off. Having been involved at several chambers of commerce for years as a member of Corporate America, I thought I knew everything about what a chamber does. Guess what? I was wrong. The Chamber team and board spent time with me, bringing me up to speed on all the great things we do for our members and the community. I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned since that first day – we’ve had good times and tough times like any business. I do know the times where we’ve succeeded the most have been when this Chamber has come together as a community. It’s been a fun four years and I look forward to many more.
Okay, it’s time to talk events – those looking to make connections have two great events in the coming weeks. Next Tuesday is Let’s Do Lunch at Rosewood’s Family Restaurant – which promises to be a fun time with outstanding food. We’ll be back at the Grove in Cerritos (formerly Vintage Cerritos) for Mixin’ in the Mornin’ Speed Networking mixer on Thursday morning. Don’t forget the Chamber’s E-Waste Drive on the last Saturday of the month at Liberty Park II. Whew, lots going on!
