Giving is Good
Giving is Good
People are generous. This is especially true at this time of year. Giving is really part of our culture in the United States. In 2014, Americans donated over $350 billion. Here in our area, there’s a great deal of giving. This past week I attended Pathways Volunteer Hospice’s “Light Up a Life” tree lighting celebration. Pathways is one of the great local non-profits that often flies under the radar. They do great work for individuals, families and even in our schools. But Pathways isn’t the only great non-profit organization in the Chamber. As you think about giving this holiday season, please look at the list of non-profit organizations involved in the Chamber. From the Friends of the 1st CEB to the Crimson and Cream Community Foundation, there are outstanding groups doing great here in our community.
Of course, I can’t talk about giving and not talk about YOU – our members! For the past four years, we have held the Chamber Holiday Drive, where we ask you all to support a local non-profit organization. Each year this program seems to grow and grow, and this year was no exception. Your generous spirit is just amazing. This year’s recipient is BEE Smart Scholars, a program that provides tutoring and education support to local students. They serve many low-income families that have very little this time of year and the donations we’ve collected will certainly make this season bright for many. All I can say is thank you.
The Chamber holiday cheer continues next week with the Holiday Mixer. This is a special event hosted by the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel (thanks, Kent!) who provide delicious treats and a wonderful holiday atmosphere. So, come on by on Wednesday evening at 5:00 PM – hope to see you there.
