The Good, Bad, and Ugly (sort of)

The Good, Bad, and Ugly (sort of)

This week’s had it all.  There’s been plenty of good, a bit of bad, and even some ugly.  Let me start backward, if you will, with the ugly. My email was hacked this week. If you were one of the lucky ones who received a strange email with no message, just an attachment, please delete it. This didn’t come from me but some guy in Eastern Europe (yes, I blame the Russians…maybe even you Dr. Alexander!). There’s some good in this too as it ended up going to a cybercrime expert who spoke at a Chamber event a few years back. Now he’s on it!

Onto the bad. This isn’t the bad you’re thinking of; it’s more of a good type of bad. My middle son turned 18 this week. Now, you probably think this is good, but he’s been my lil’ buddy forever, and it’s killing me that he’s 18, over six feet tall, and a Senior in high school. He’s an amazing kid, and I’m proud of the young man he’s become. He’s a free spirit who isn’t afraid to be himself.

The good is well, nearly great. This week was an outstanding week for the Chamber and our members. I’m proud to say the Chamber successfully advocated for two Chamber members at the Cerritos City Council meeting and we helped another member get the approvals he needed to open his new restaurant. Now, we didn’t do the work or make the decisions, but we knew who to call and what to say. Most think of chambers of commerce as simply networking organizations, but this is just a part of what we do. We are conveners and connectors who advocate for business – first and foremost!

One more – the best part of the week was having our Ambassadors and volunteers come by the Chamber office to “stuff” the tote bags for next week’s Taste of the Region & Business Expo. This year’s tote bag sponsor is Chugh LLP, an outstanding law and CPA firm headquartered here in Cerritos. Our Ambassadors and volunteers stuffed 1,000 bags to be given out next Wednesday – and the did it in record time. My sincere thanks to Nancy, Joe, Anthony, Candy, Oscar, Patricia, and Sharon for your hard work.

Have a great weekend, and I hope to see all of you at next week’s Taste of the Region & Business Expo on Wednesday the 27th from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the CCPA.
