A Cultural Shift

A Cultural Shift

A friend recently asked me what I thought about the plethora of sexual misconduct accusations running rampant across the country right now. I responded with “I think we are going through another cultural shift.” This got a chuckle out of my friend, but I stand by this statement. Think about all of the changes we’ve seen to this great and unique culture. Many of these changes have been to correct wrongs that have been ignored for generations. I believe we are going through that again. As a father of a daughter, I would hate to have her be objectified or harassed in the way we’ve seen. Over my career, I’ve seen women deal with issues that my male colleagues never had to worry about. This is wrong, and I hope this cultural shift will help end this behavior. As leaders, we all have to carefully consider the potential and actual impact our words and actions have on others. This is all simply another step in that direction. It’s past time for this culture to shift in the right direction.

The holidays are upon us. Maybe you’ve seen the Chamber’s newest team member, Elfis (named by his Elf parents for their favorite singer), around town. He’s been seen at Chamber member businesses for the past few weeks and will be continuing his trek around the community until Christmas. Check out our Facebook page to see where he’s been. Keep an I out for him; he may be visiting you next!

Speaking of the holidays, our annual Holiday Luncheon is set for next week! We are so proud to be partnering with the talented singers from Westbeat, presented by 3D Theatricals, for this event. We will also be providing the donated items from the Chamber’s Holiday Drive to the ABCUSD Head Start Program. I can promise you, this event will both warm your heart and give you a big dose of holiday spirit. RSVP today!

Have a wonderful weekend – remember to keep your holiday shopping local! #shopcerritos
