Pokemon Go Craziness
Has the Pokemon Go fever taken ahold of you yet? If it hasn’t, you are one of the few who has yet to chase virtual Pokemon all over the place. Not sure what this is? Trust me, you’re not alone. According to the oracle that is Wikipedia, Pokemon Go is a “free-to-play location-based augmented reality mobile game developed by Niantic and published by The Pokémon Company as part of the Pokemon franchise.” What’s interesting to me is the impact on business. Inc. had an article about the impact on business and how some businesses have started to offer discounts to players. An article in Fortune discussed how some businesses are “activating lure modules” (for a fee) to drive these virtual characters into their stores. One store saw a 75% increase in sales over a weekend. This could be a “game changer” (pun totally intended) for business, especially those trying to reach the ever elusive millennials. Let me know how your business is benefitting from Pokemon Go.
So, it’s with a heavy heart that I admit I will not be at ComicCon this year. Our family did not score tickets during the pre-registration or open registration online “lottery.” I cannot even begin to tell you how disappointed we are to miss this year’s event. No, we will not be there to see sneaks of Star Wars Rouge One or Suicide Squad or Dr. Strange. We’ll miss watching Jim Lee (look him up) sketch out some of the iconic comic book characters he’s drawn over his career. I know we’ll miss making new friends in the countless lines. Then again…we probably won’t miss waiting in line until the wee hours of the morning just so we can come back and wait in line a few hours later. I won’t miss the terrible food offered at the San Diego Convention Center (yeah, I just called you out!) or paying way too much for it. In the end, it’s been our family time together for the past five years or so. We’ve seen some amazing things, met great people, and shared time as a family that has been simply magical. We hope to see you next year ComicCon.
Have a nice weekend. For those who are playing Pokemon Go – may you find Pikachu!
