Spring is here, with politics

I was going to write about politics this week, but I decided to give you all a break. If you live or work in Cerritos, you know there’s a City Council election going on right now. So then, in keeping with the theme of politics, I thought I might share my thoughts about those who just complain or point out what they “think” is wrong vs. those who actually work to make this a better community. That would likely end up sounding and feeling like politics. All I can say is that this election is pivotal for the future of this fine community and I hope each voter looks past the rhetoric to find truth when considering with whom to cast their vote. Two dates you need to remember: March 27 is the last day to register to vote in the coming election and April 11 is Election Day. Candidates: may the force be with you.

On a side note, welcome to spring! The sun’s up a later, it’s getting warmer, and we’re starting to think about summer. The weather’s not the only thing that’s heating up – the Chamber’s schedule is as well. Get this, over the next seven weeks we’ll be holding six events ranging from the State of the District Luncheon with Supt. (of the year!) Dr. Mary Sieu to a business conference to networking to the Fiesta on the Fairways Golf Classic – whew! Keeping the golf tournament in mind, we’re introducing something new this year: golf lessons! That’s right, even if you don’t golf you can enjoy time on the course as part of a group lesson with a golf pro. Not only that, but you get the opportunity to enjoy some of the great activities we have on the course and you get a seat at the evening’s banquet. Let us know if you are interested in this new way to involve those (like me) who are “golf-challenged.”

As we think about what happened in London this week, let’s all take a moment to consider where hate has gotten the world. We see, time-and-time again, that hate only results in more hate. If you pray, send out a prayer to those impacted by this horrific event. In the end, we are all in this life together and we have more in common than not. Something we need to remember…especially at election time.
