T-Minus One Week
T-Minus One Week
We are a week away from the official beginning of the holiday shopping season – Black Friday. The National Retail Federation estimates that over 164 million Americans will be shopping over the long Thanksgiving weekend, with well over 100 million visiting retailers on Black Friday. Why shouldn’t they? This year retailers are focusing more on providing value for dollars spent, and many have even been hyping pre-BF deals. Although retail results were down the past few months, it’s been up recently. Of course, the price of gas has had an impact on retail dollars spent, but the numbers look good even if you take it away from the stats. Vehicle sales are up (way to go Mr. Lexus – Desmond Thompson!), and retailers are excited about a great holiday shopping season. Here in Cerritos, most of the City budget comes from sales tax revenue. So, I’d like to remind you to Shop Cerritos…visit both the mall and the independent retailers in the City. Remember, every dollar you spend is not only an investment in that store, but in your community – maintaining the parks, trimming the trees, and improving the roads. So, smile when you are out shopping for that perfect gift! Just Shop Cerritos, that’s all I ask!
We are mere weeks away from the Chamber’s Annual Holiday Luncheon, where we will be presenting the Cerritos Optimist Club with the donations received from our Holiday Drive. See below for a list of collection sites located around the area. You can also stop by the Chamber office to drop off a gift, or bring one to the luncheon. All who donate will get a raffle ticket for the outstanding raffle we have at this event. The Holiday Drive is an easy way for you to help needy families in our community during the holidays. Let us know if you’d like to serve as a collection site.
Finally, I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving as you won’t see this email next week. We all have so much to be thankful for these days. Remember, there is someone out there who would love to trade places for the life you have. I hope you laugh, hug your loved ones, and smile at everyone you meet.
